SAP RAP Purchase Order Management Series – Day 2: Expanding Horizons with Purchase Order Dynamics

Welcome to Day 2 of our SAP RAP Purchase Order Management Series!

After establishing the foundation of our Purchase Order Management application in Day 1, we now move deeper into the SAP ABAP RESTful Application Programming Model (RAP) by building one of the most important layers of the application architecture—the Composite CDS View.

Composite CDS Views play a critical role in SAP RAP applications by bringing together data from multiple sources and creating a business-oriented data model that can be consumed by transactional applications, analytical reports, and Fiori UIs. They act as the bridge between the underlying database tables and the business services exposed to end users.

In this session, we will explore:

✅ Understanding the role of Composite CDS Views in SAP RAP architecture

✅ Creating reusable and scalable data models for Purchase Order processing

✅ Establishing relationships between Purchase Order Header and Item entities

✅ Implementing associations and compositions to support business object behavior

✅ Enhancing data modeling practices using modern ABAP Cloud development standards

✅ Preparing the foundation for transactional processing and Fiori Elements applications

As our Purchase Order Management solution continues to evolve, this step ensures that the application remains maintainable, extensible, and aligned with SAP’s clean core strategy.

Whether you are an SAP ABAP developer, RAP enthusiast, SAP BTP consultant, or someone looking to modernize enterprise applications using ABAP Cloud, this chapter provides valuable insights into designing robust business data models.

Join me as we continue our SAP RAP journey and transform business requirements into powerful enterprise-grade applications through modern SAP development practices.

Stay tuned for Day 3, where we will continue expanding the Purchase Order Management application with additional RAP artifacts and business logic implementation.
